The MITS Altair 8800 was a microcomputer design from 1975, based on the Intel 8080 CPU.

Sold as a kit through Popular Electronics magazine, the designers intended to sell only a few hundred to hobbyists, and were surprised when they sold over ten times that many in the first month. Today the Altair is widely recognized as the spark that led to the personal computer revolution of the next few years.

Located in Mountain View, CA, the Computer History Museum is the world’s largest and most significant history museum for preserving and presenting the computing revolution and its impact on the human experience.

Established in 1996, the Computer History Museum is a public benefit organization dedicated to the preservation and celebration of computing history.

Photos from our first full day here at the 2008 Theory of Evolutionary Algorithms seminar at the wondrous Schloss Dagstuhl.

I’m going to make a particular effort at this workshop to try to capture something of the doing of (computer) science, which means there may be more people pictures than I am normally inclined to take.

Lets hope I don’t annoy anyone too much in the process. (If anyone finds themselves in these and isn’t happy about it, please let me know and I’ll be happy to remove your photo.)

These are all unedited and uncleaned except for having been shrunk somewhat to speed up the upload.
