Flickrfan: Some fire twirling dude

I’m not sure if this guy was actually officially part of the Nuit Blanche event, but as I walked on through the King’s College Circle, I saw him being surrounded by a number of photographers and their tripods.
I came in just at the last minute literally seconds before he stopped twirling and the flames went out.
No tripod for this shot. I actually like the atmosphere of the backdrop for this more than the subject.
The lights in the backdrop are courtesty of Event Horizon, 2007, another peculiar installation.

I’m not sure if they do it every year, but this year, they had lights showing (and playing) the "The Twelve Days of Christmas". Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take good pictures of each "day".
These are 4 calling birds.

Beautiful day in Baltimore to see Cesar Millan, the dog whisperer, at the Hippodrome.
This theater is one of many beautiful theaters designed by Thomas White Lamb early in the 20th century.
Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower – Baltimore, Maryland
This historic structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was modeled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. It was completed in 1911 and has been a Baltimore landmark ever since. The tower was designed by Joseph Evans Sperry and built by Captain Isaac Emerson, the inventor of Bromo-Seltzer. The tower was originally topped with a 51-foot revolving replica of the blue Bromo-Seltzer bottle, which was illuminated by 596 lights and could be seen from 20 miles away. The four clock faces are all still working; however, the bottle had to be removed in 1936 due to structural concerns.

Stores and attractions are shuttered. Arcades are empty. Young people are few and far between. It’s October on the boardwalk at Rehoboth Beach and despite the fact that the temperatures have been in the high 70’s and even the 80’s the level of activity is noticeably down-wound.

The 6th of june was the first day of the G8 meeting, and the day most of the participant arrived.
The idea of the demonstrators was to block the roads to the two gates of the fence around Heiligendamm. The goal of the police was to prevent this.
There was a 2 km red zone around the fence, heavely patroled, that was forbidden to anyone wihtout a proper accreditation.
When the march started from the Reddelich camp, the protesters were quickly stop by a first police blockade.
What the police hadn’t thought about is that the demonstrators immediately went into the woods.
5000 people went through the woods and fields.
Meeting on a hill, they splitted into five groups, each marching in a different direction, bringing total chaos in the police organization.
The first group arrived soon after to the east entrance of the fence, quickly joined by the others.
The police force was at that moment on that spot of around 20 men. Who couldn"t stop 5000 people arriving.
They soon got reinforcement, but a bit of panic was visible in the first minutes.
Cops told us later that they were there on a break, thinking it would be a quiet location. Nobody told them the demonstrators were heading their way. It was quite a surprise to suddenly see 5000 people appear and marching on them.
The entire day went quite peacefully (water-canons where used at another location to clean a blockade). Some of the Black Block guys just destroyed a fence.
The blockade went on during the night, demonstators sleeping there. As the G8 will be meeting in Heiligendamm from the 6th until the 8th of June, protestors gather in Rostock and cities around, organizing demonstrations.
