It’s surprising how many photographs you can archive if you shoot once a week. When we first started creating content for this website, we thought we would aim to create between 3-5 great images each time we went out. The first time we went out I only made one image – and that was the very first post for this blog. Subsequent trips have yielded more images, and now that we’ve been at it for a few months, it is fun to go back through the archives and post some older material.
One morning I headed out for Olive Park and the Ohio street beach to catch sunrise. I took a bunch of images and then set up to wait for sunrise. It was no where near as cold as it had been recently, but it was cold enough that 20 minutes of not moving hit me like a ton of bricks. My hands were frozen despite the gloves and it was torture to turn all the dials on the camera. This was before I fully appreciated that the best light happens about 30 minutes prior to sunrise and those images that came after the sun peaked out were largely boring

This one I am rather fond of though, that’s the moon in the upper left, peaking through the near-north skyline.

Thanks to all who participated in the poll for our August Meetup. Based on your votes, we’ll have the next ViewFinder Meetup on 8 August at the Seenachtfest in Rapperswil.
We will meet at 20:00 at the Information Booth at the lakefront next to the Rapperswil Bahnhof. Have time for shooting around the festival and then walk out on the bridge to set up for taking photos of fireworks, which start at 22:00.
There is an entrance fee of CHF 25 to gain access to the lakefront festival area and the bridge across the lake – these areas have the usual festival features of food, bars and offer the best vantage points for viewing and photographing the fireworks.
According to the official Seenachtfest website, the entrance ticket includes train, boat and bus transportation and can be ordered in advance at TicketCorner.ch, or you can buy a special SBB Kombi-Ticket (CHF 30) that also includes Nacthtzuschlag supplement (that also covers trains and buses starting from about 12:50 am). You also have the option to buy your entrance ticket on-site that evening.
If you want to arrive earlier, you can see the airshow performance by the Swiss Air Force PC-7 team at 18:35. The Seenachtfest happens once every three years and runs all weekend with music, food and more.
We look forward to seeing you there!

206/365. All those angels with their wings glued on ~ Smashing Pumpkins (Cherub Rock) — Who wants honey?
First, yeah, there are a couple photos missing from my 365. Need not worry, they’re on my hard drive… somewhere. The more important thing is that I was taking photos on those days.
Anyhow, here is Erin – showing her mischievous side. As a matter of fact today, a man drove by yelling at me saying "Duuuude! Watch out! She’s poison!" Erin happened to have been wearing this.
Regarding strobist… no need to document this one it’s been done all too much.

This drive in theatre was still open the last time I lived in San Antonio. It is now permanently closed.

Mission 4 Theater may be forced to close for good
By Jim Forsyth
Tuesday, March 20, 2007The 59 year old Mission Drive In will not open this summer as scheduled and may never open again due to massive vandalism at the historic south side theater, 1200 WOAI news reports today.
We’ve been doing assessments by contractors and unfortunately the damages are more severe than we thought they would be," Santikos Theaters General Manager Richard Cieplechowicz told 1200 WOAI’s Cari Laque.
"We’re in the half a million dollar mark right now in our estimate of repairing the Mission Drive In. It does not look like it will be opening this summer."
Located on Roosevelt Avenue on the south side, not far from Mission San Jose, the Mission Drive In opened in March of 1948. It is the only remaining drive in theater in the San Antonio area and one of the few remaining in the country that still showed first run movies on a nightly basis.
"They broke inside the building, they broke windows, cash registers, projectors," Cieplechowicz said. "They ruined air conditioners, they wrote graffiti on the screens, the box office, and outpost, they really went in there and destroyed the building.
Nothing we could really tell was stolen. it was just vandalism."
He says Santikos owner John Santikos ‘wants to keep the Mission open because it’s part of the history of San Antonio.’ but he says the historic drive in ‘is not a big money maker’ and the vandalism may prompt the company simply to close the old theaters for good. He says Santikos owns the land the Mission Drive In sits on.
A final decision will be made in the coming months.
Cieplechowicz says an added problem is the fact that it’s getting more and more difficult for find replacement parts of drive in theaters.
"People aren’t designing a lot of equipment for drive ins. Its just hard stuff to get your hands on."
So far, no word on who the vandals were, or why they decided to trash the Mission.
